Three Penn State Football players facing drug charges

Three Penn State football players were charged Monday after university police officers said they found marijuana and LSD in the trio’s on-campus apartment.

Officers responded about 3:40 p.m. Aug. 2 to sophomore running back Devyn Ford and redshirt freshman offensive linemen Sal Wormley and Caedan Wallace’s apartment for a fire alarm, Penn State police wrote in an affidavit of probable cause filed Monday.

Police found marijuana “all over the floor” and detected a “very potent” smell of burned weed coming from the apartment, an officer wrote.

Marijuana, a grinder and two tabs of LSD were found in Ford’s room; weed was found in Wormley’s room; and a glass pipe with marijuana residue was found in Wallace’s room, police wrote.

A defense lawyer was not listed for either Ford, Wormley or Wallace.

The university’s athletics department is aware of the charges, a spokesperson wrote in a statement.

“These alleged actions do not reflect the values and standards of our program and will be addressed,” the athletics department said. “We will not comment any further as this is an ongoing legal matter.”

Ford, 19, was charged with one misdemeanor count each of possession of a small amount of marijuana, drug paraphernalia and unlawful possession of a controlled substance.

Wormley, 19, was charged with one misdemeanor count each of possession of a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Wallace, 20, was charged with one misdemeanor count of possession of drug paraphernalia.

Each has a preliminary hearing scheduled for Sept. 30.

Robert Mahone, Boise State RB, suspended after domestic battery arrest

Robert Mahone, a Boise State running back, has been suspended indefinitely after he was arrested Monday and charged with domestic battery or assault in the presence of a child.

Mahone, a redshirt senior, is facing a misdemeanor charge, according to the Ada County Sheriff’s Office. A team spokesperson confirmed Monday evening that the football player has been suspended from all team activities.At around 5:15 p.m. Monday, officers were dispatched to a home near North Allumbaugh Street and West Fairview Avenue

At around 5:15 p.m. Monday, officers were dispatched to a home near North Allumbaugh Street and West Fairview Avenue after being notified of a possible domestic disturbance and that a child was present, according to a Boise Police Department spokesperson.

Officers arrived and located a suspect, identified by authorities as Mahone. After an investigation, police arrested Mahone on a misdemeanor domestic battery charge. He was booked into the Ada County Jail at around 6:30 p.m.

Mahone appeared in front of Magistrate Judge Adam Kimball on Tuesday afternoon via video call from the Ada County Jail. Mahone allegedly was a part of a verbal altercation that turned physical, according to Janice Beller, deputy city attorney for the Boise City Prosecutor’s Office.

Beller alleged during the Tuesday hearing that Mahone pushed the victim into a closet before forcefully pushing the same person to the ground and damaging an item in the home. Beller also alleged that there is a “history of unreported violence” between Mahone and the victim, and it was reported in a 911 call made to police that Mahone allegedly has a handgun.

Kimball allowed Mahone to be released on his own recognizance, but ordered a no-contact order be put in place between Mahone and the vicitm in the case. It was not immediately clear when he will be released from jail custody, but Mahone’s next court date is scheduled for a pre-trial conference on Sept. 9.

Last season, Mahone turned himself into police over an unpaid speeding ticket but faced no discipline from the team.

His daughter, Jorja, was born in July 2019. Mahone is originally from Atlanta.

Mahone, who played his high school ball in Prosper, Texas, appeared in 13 games and made seven starts last fall for Boise State. He has appeared in 39 games since 2017.

Malik Heath, Mississippi State wide receiver, arrested for speeding, DUI

Malik Heath, Mississippi State wide receiver, was arrested in Winston County on Wednesday on five different charges according to documents obtained by the Clarion Ledger.

Malik Heath was pulled over by Mississippi Highway Patrol for speeding 20 miles per hour over the limit. He was also driving without a license and without insurance, driving with improper equipment and driving under the influence (DUI).

Heath, 20, was booked at Winston-Choctaw Regional Correctional Facility at 4:29 p.m. and was released at 8:30 p.m on $3,000 bond. Mississippi State football coach Mike Leach issued the Clarion Ledger the following statement Wednesday night:

“We’re aware of the situation. We’re gathering more information from the proper authorities and don’t have further comment at this time.”

Heath is a first-time offender of DUI and was fined the maximum of $1,000. According to Mississippi drunk driving laws, first-time offenders are also required to attend and complete an alcohol safety education program. His license will be suspended for 30 to 90 days, and ignition interlock will be required for 90 days after the suspension period.

Jalen Redmond, OU football defensive lineman, arrested for DUI

Jalen Redmond, Oklahoma defensive lineman, was arrested early Wednesday morning on a complaint of driving under the influence.

According to a police report, an officer spotted a Jeep Wrangler make an improper turn onto Boyd Street from University Boulevard around 2 a.m. Wednesday. The vehicle executed a wide right turn and drifted into the inside lane of Boyd Street.

The officer made contact with the driver – identified as Redmond, a redshirt sophomore from Midwest City – who the report stated had watery, bloodshot eyes. According to the police report, the officer also detected an odor of alcohol on Redmond’s breath.

Redmond told the officer he was driving from Campus Corner and admitted that he had been drinking alcoholic beverages consisting of two Crown and Cokes, according to the report. Redmond agreed to take a field sobriety test, and the report stated the officer arrested him based on his performance during the test, his admission to drinking alcohol and physical signs of intoxication.

According to the police report, Redmond agreed to take a breath test at the Cleveland County Detention Center. Both Intoxilyzer results returned as a 0.10, the report states.

Redmond was booked into the jail around 3:30 a.m.

During the 2019 season, Redmond recorded 23 total tackles, 11 tackles for loss and 6.5 sacks in 13 games.

Sam Williams, Ole Miss football player, arrested on sexual battery charge

Sam Williams, a member of the Ole Miss football team was arrested on Friday and is facing a felony charge. Senior linebacker Sam Williams was booked into the Lafayette County Detention Center on Friday at 9:34 a.m. and released at 2:42 p.m. later that day. There is only one charge listed, sexual battery, and Williams was issued a $25,000 bond.

No other information regarding the charge was provided by the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Department.

On Monday, the Oxford Police Department sent out a statement regarding Williams’ arrest stating, “Due to the nature of the case, we will not be releasing any further information.”

A statement provided by an Ole Miss spokesman updated Williams’ status with the team, stating the Montgomery, Ala. native had been suspended indefinitely.

“We have suspended Sam Williams indefinitely from all team activities,” the statement read. “We take these charges very seriously and will allow the legal system to run its course before making further determinations on his status in our program.”

Williams spent two seasons at Northeast Mississippi Community College in Booneville before coming to Ole Miss in 2019. In his one season with the Rebels, Williams played in all 12 games and recorded 37 total tackles and had six sacks and one interception.

Emmitt Gooden, Tennessee Volunteer, arrested for felony domestic assault

Emmitt Gooden, arguably the Tennessee Volunteers best returning defensive lineman has been dismissed from the team after he was arrested on Thursday for felony domestic assault.

Emmitt Gooden is accused of hitting his girlfriend in the head with a glass jar candle during an argument, according to online police records. His girlfriend sustained lacerations on her left eyebrow and the corner of her left eye that required sutures at the University of Tennessee medical center.

The senior from Brownsville transferred to Tennessee from Independence community college where he was featured on the Netflix documentary series “Last Chance U.” Gooden playing in all 12 games last season ranking third on the team with 7 tackles for loss.

Cristian Williams, TU safety, suspended after DUI arrest

Cristian Williams, University of Tulsa, safety was arrested early Saturday on a complaint of driving under the influence, according to jail records.

Williams, 23, was booked into the Tulsa jail at about 4 a.m. Saturday. He bonded out of jail at about noon.

A sixth-year senior from Dallas, Williams has started 16 games for the Hurricane including all 12 last season after his career seemingly ended in 2018 because of a medical issue. He spent the rest of the season on the sidelines in a coach-type role.

In 2019, he returned to action, having been cleared after passing multiple physicals. He tied for fourth on the team with 57 tackles and also had an interception, a forced fumble and three pass breakups.

Williams, who was able to get the 2018 season back with a waiver from the NCAA, has been suspended from all team activities as a result of his arrest, a team spokesman said Monday.

CU football player La’Vontae Shenault arrested on DUI charge in Fort Collins

La’Vontae Shenault, a Colorado football player and brother of star Laviska Shenault Jr., was arrested Sunday in Fort Collins on suspicion of DUI.

La’Vonte Shenault, 19, was arrested by Fort Collins police during a traffic stop at 12:41 a.m. in the Campus West neighborhood, just west of Colorado State University. He was booked into the Larimer County Jail and released later Sunday on a personal recognizance bond after posting $1,250, according to jail and court records.

Fort Collins police initiated the traffic stop after observing a vehicle driving without headlights on, spokeswoman Kate Kimble said Tuesday. Upon contact with the driver, the officer observed signs of impairment and ultimately arrested the driver, La’Vontae Shenault,

He was booked on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, driving without headlamps at night and a drivers license violation, Kimble said. the DUI charge is a misdemeanor offense, while the other two charges are traffic offenses. A detailed report on the traffic stop and arrest were not yet available, according to a clerk in the Fort Collins Police Services records department.

His next court appearance was scheduled for Nov. 6.

Marquis Wilson, Penn State football player charged with drug possession after traffic stop

Marquis Wilson, one of Penn State‘s football players, has been charged with misdemeanor drug possession related to a February traffic stop on campus, according to a criminal complaint.

Authorities say Marquis Wilson, a sophomore cornerback, faces charges for possessing a small amount of marijuana and for use of drug paraphernalia, according to court documents.

On Feb. 29th, around 10 p.m., University police conducted a traffic stop of Wilson’s vehicle, after officers detected an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle, the complaint states.

Police add that Wilson was observed with red, glassy eyes and the odor of marijuana on his breath.

Police then conducted a search of Wilson’s vehicle, the complaint adds, and officers found a “pink tinted plastic pill bottle containing marijuana.”

According to court documents, Wilson’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for August 26th.

Jashawn Sheffield, Auburn player, suspended indefinitely following arrests

Jashawn Sheffield, an Auburn football player, has been suspended indefinitely following a pair of arrests in Georgia, a team spokesman confirmed to the Montgomery Advertiser.

Sheffield, a native of Brunswick, Georgia, was arrested for disorderly conduct on May 9 then again for a “DUI Less Safe” on May 16 in Bulloch County. He spent two days in jail after each arrest, getting released on a $1,576 bond after the second.

In the state of Georgia, a “DUI Less Safe” can be charged if a law enforcement officer believes a driver is less safe behind the wheel because of alcohol consumption, even if that person is under a specific blood-alcohol content.

The former four-star athlete played wide receiver as a true freshman at Auburn, appearing in only game (Nov. 23 against Samford) and carrying twice for 30 yards. He was expected to get a look at a defensive back whenever the Tigers resumed practice for the 2020 season.

It is still unclear when Auburn will get to return to the practice field and, now, when Sheffield will be allowed to rejoin the team.

Sheffield caught 92 passes for 1,393 yards, rushed 254 times for 2,040 yards and totaled 41 touchdowns on offense and recorded 50 tackles, two sacks and three interceptions on defense during his high school career at Frederica Academy in Saint Simons Island, Georgia.
