Texas LB Demarco Boyd charged with misdemeanor assault for July 4 incident

University of Texas linebacker Demarco Boyd has been charged with misdemeanor assault stemming from an altercation following a July 4 car crash in West Austin, Assistant Police Chief Troy Gay confirmed to the American-Statesman.

Boyd turned himself into Travis County officials and was released Thursday. Austin police said the official charge is assault with injury, a class A misdemeanor.

An arrest affidavit in the case is expected to be made public Friday. Austin police have been investigating the incident since July 4, interviewing numerous witnesses. Boyd is accused of assaulting a 20-year-old out-of-town visitor at the scene of the crash near Enfield and Mopac (Loop 1), badly damaging a car he was in.

Boyd, a sophomore from Gilmer, has played in four career games at Texas. He redshirted in 2016 and then was used sparingly last season. He was a two-way player at Gilmer and a two-time all-state selection.

In a statement, Texas coach Tom Herman said, “We are aware of the situation with Demarco Boyd and have suspended him from all team activities at this time. We will continue to monitor the legal process and pending its completion, determine any further action.”

Mississippi State wide receiver Reggie Todd arrested for assault

Reggie Todd Fulmer CupMississippi State wide receiver Reggie Todd was arrested Tuesday on an alleged simple assault charge, according to the Oktibbeha County jail log.

Todd has been suspended indefinitely from team activities, Joe Moorhead said in a statement.

In a statement, a spokesman from the Oktibbeha County Sheriff’s Office said that Todd turned himself into the sheriff’s office after warrants were issued for a fight he was allegedly involved with early Sunday morning. The charge is a misdemeanor.

It is believed that the alleged fight was with another male at a house party. Todd, 21, was bonded out. Todd’s initial appearance in Oktibbeha County Justice Court is scheduled for July 10

Todd, who is entering his sophomore season, is one of a handful of Mississippi State receivers battling for playing time and looking to earn a viable role in Joe Moorhead’s offense. There’s a logjam at the position and the opportunity is there for guys to make separation heading into training camp. As a redshirt freshman last season, he had 14 receptions, 160 yards and one touchdown while playing in all 13 games.

2 Rainbow Warriors arrested after Honolulu nightclub altercation

The Fulmer Cup Chung TavaiLinebacker Jahlani Tavai and running back Kaiwi Chung were arrested for third degree assault after they were involved in an altercation with a man who allegedly pushed a woman to the ground, according to law enforcement sources.

It happened at The District nightclub on Kona Street.

Tavai and Chung are believed to have been in the vicinity of the initial incident and subsequently went after the man. They were later arrested for the misdemeanor crime.

Tavai, a potential NFL Draft prospect, was named to the all-Mountain West second team last season after leading the Warriors with 124 tackles (66 solo, 58 assisted), ranking 10th in the nation.

As a junior, Tavai also led the ‘Bows in sacks (5.5) and tackles-for-loss (11.0).

Chung, who played 11 games for the Warriors last season, was expected to contribute on special teams and on offense this upcoming fall.

Neither player had been charged as of early Sunday afternoon.

Jamarkese Williams, UIW football player arrested in connection to Alamo Heights bar fight that broke man’s jaw

Jamarkese Williams The Fulmer CupJamarkese Williams, a University of Incarnate Word football player was arrested Thursday by Alamo Heights police after a bar fight that was caught on camera, officials said.

Police said Jamarkese Williams, 22, was seen on video punching a customer in the face up to 7 times on Saurday night at the 50/50 Bar. It’s unclear what led up to the alleged fight.

According to the affidavit, another customer tried to intervene and “attempted to reason” with Williams.

Williams punched that man up to three times, police said.

 The second man suffered a fractured jaw, according to the affidavit.

Police identified Williams using the video, but UIW Athletic Director Brian Wickstorm also called police and told them Williams told him he was involved in the fight, according to the affidavit.

Montana State safety Justin Strong arrested on assault suspicion (The Fulmer Cup Offseason)

The Fulmer Cup Justin StrongMontana State Grizzlies senior safety Justin Strong was arrested for allegedly beating a Washington State student in Pullman, Washington, Saturday. KHQ-TV, a Spokane NBC affiliate, broke the news.

The report said Strong told police the victim assaulted him at a house party, and he hit the victim twice, once knocking him to the ground and a second time when the victim tried to get up. The victim suffered a fractured skull and was flown from Pullman to Spokane for treatment.

Nate Johnson The Fulmer CupNate Johnson was arrested early on Saturday morning and charged with one count of domestic assault for what MLive called “an attack on a female student.” The alleged attack is believed to have occurred in the victim’s dorm room.

Michigan football announced Saturday that Johnson had been “suspended indefinitely from all team activities” in a team release. The sophomore switched from wide receiver to cornerback after his freshman season, and has not recorded any stats yet in 2017. Johnson had 1 reception for 4 yards as a freshman in 2016.
