WKU quarterback Steven Duncan arrested on DUI charge

Steven Duncan The Fulmer CupWestern Kentucky quarterback Steven Duncan was arrested Sunday on charges that included operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol, according to the Warren County Regional Jail website.

“We are aware of the situation and currently gathering more information. We take this matter very seriously as a football program,” WKU said in a statement.

Duncan, 19, was booked at 2:43 a.m. He was also charged with a failure to produce insurance and a failure to illuminate head lamps.

According to a police report obtained Monday by WBKO, officer Rodney McMillin observed Duncan’s vehicle at 2:09 a.m. Sunday with head lights off on campus on College Heights Boulevard at Avenue of Champions. Upon stopping the vehicle McMillin noted Duncan “smelled strong of beverage” and standardized field sobriety test and horizontal gaze nystagmus test, “showed lack of smooth pursuit in both eyes, nystagmus onset prior to 45 degrees and was distinct and sustained at maximum deviation in both eyes.”

Duncan refused to perform balance tests, his implied consent was read at jail and Duncan did not want to speak with an attorney while refusing breath test. Duncan also failed to produce a valid insurance card.
