Mississippi State wide receiver Reggie Todd arrested for assault

Reggie Todd Fulmer CupMississippi State wide receiver Reggie Todd was arrested Tuesday on an alleged simple assault charge, according to the Oktibbeha County jail log.

Todd has been suspended indefinitely from team activities, Joe Moorhead said in a statement.

In a statement, a spokesman from the Oktibbeha County Sheriff’s Office said that Todd turned himself into the sheriff’s office after warrants were issued for a fight he was allegedly involved with early Sunday morning. The charge is a misdemeanor.

It is believed that the alleged fight was with another male at a house party. Todd, 21, was bonded out. Todd’s initial appearance in Oktibbeha County Justice Court is scheduled for July 10

Todd, who is entering his sophomore season, is one of a handful of Mississippi State receivers battling for playing time and looking to earn a viable role in Joe Moorhead’s offense. There’s a logjam at the position and the opportunity is there for guys to make separation heading into training camp. As a redshirt freshman last season, he had 14 receptions, 160 yards and one touchdown while playing in all 13 games.

2 Rainbow Warriors arrested after Honolulu nightclub altercation

The Fulmer Cup Chung TavaiLinebacker Jahlani Tavai and running back Kaiwi Chung were arrested for third degree assault after they were involved in an altercation with a man who allegedly pushed a woman to the ground, according to law enforcement sources.

It happened at The District nightclub on Kona Street.

Tavai and Chung are believed to have been in the vicinity of the initial incident and subsequently went after the man. They were later arrested for the misdemeanor crime.

Tavai, a potential NFL Draft prospect, was named to the all-Mountain West second team last season after leading the Warriors with 124 tackles (66 solo, 58 assisted), ranking 10th in the nation.

As a junior, Tavai also led the ‘Bows in sacks (5.5) and tackles-for-loss (11.0).

Chung, who played 11 games for the Warriors last season, was expected to contribute on special teams and on offense this upcoming fall.

Neither player had been charged as of early Sunday afternoon.

Bowling Green football’s Datrin Guyton arrested, suspended

The Fulmer Cup Datrin GuytonBowling Green State University football player Datrin Guyton was arrested by the Wood County Sheriff’s Department Saturday and charged with robbery.

The senior receiver is expected to appear in court Monday.

“We continue to gather information on this situation,” BG athletics department spokesman Jason Knavel said in a statement. “Until further notice, Datrin is suspended indefinitely.”

Last season Guyton played in 11 of Bowling Green’s 12 games — he was benched for the Falcons’ contest at Miami — and started five times. He finished with 31 catches for 585 yards, good for third-best on the team in both categories, and had two touchdown catches.

Guyton had two games with at least 100 receiving yards, including 158 yards on five catches against South Dakota and 112 yards on five catches in the season finale at Eastern Michigan.

A native of Manor, Texas, the 22-year-old Guyton began his college career at Oregon State, where as a redshirt freshmen he caught 14 passes for 178 yards in eight games before he was dismissed from the team for “violation of athletic department and team rules as it relates to the expectations of a student-athlete” during the 2015 season.

In 2016, he played at Copiah-Lincoln Community College and had 31 catches for 471 yards and three scores.

Guyton is the second Bowling Green receiver to land in trouble this offseason. Matt Wilcox left the team after he was charged with OVI in April.

Auburn walk-on wide receiver arrested for minor in possession of alcohol, fake ID

Auburn walk-on wide receiver Pace Ozmint was arrested over the weekend for minor in possession of alcohol and giving false identification to a law enforcement officer.

Ozmint, a redshirt-sophomore, was arrested on the 100 block of W Magnolia Avenue in Auburn on Saturday, according to Auburn police logs.

Both charges are misdemeanors in Alabama.

The minor in possession charge carries a fine of no less than $25 and no more than $100 and up to 30 days in jail. False identification carries a fine of no less than $50 or more than $500, can include a jail sentence of up to three months and requires surrendering one’s license for at least three months and no more than six months.

Typically, first-time offenders under 21 years of age receive youthful offender status and pay a fine and court costs.

Two Illinois football players charged with theft for allegedly stealing park statue

James Marchese, 21, and Drew Murtaugh, 20 admitted they relocated a steel sculpture from a Champaign park to their rooftop have been charged with theft.

Both appeared Friday in Champaign County Circuit Court after having earlier been given notices to appear.

Each man was charged with a single count of theft between $500 and $10,000 for allegedly stealing a deer sculpture titled “Startled” from Scott Park in the 200 block of East Springfield Avenue on April 29.

If convicted, they face penalties ranging from probation to two to five years in prison.

Kentucky football safety Marcus Walker arrested, faces drug charges

Kentucky defensive back Marcus Walker was arrested early Thursday after authorities said they found five pounds of marijuana and an ounce of cocaine at an off-campus residence.

Lexington Police served a search warrant at a home in the 1100 block of Unity Drive after going to the residence late Wednesday night, according to Sgt. Jervis Middleton, a police spokesman.

Walker, 21, was arrested as a result of items uncovered in the search, Middleton said, in addition to 23-year-old Tavon Wells. Both men were charged with trafficking at least 5 pounds of marijuana and 4 grams of cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Authorities found drugs in addition to “a large amount of cash” and a cash counter, according to an arrest citation.

The address listed by police for Walker on the citation was the same as the location of the arrest.

Walker pleaded not guilty at his arraignment in Lexington District Court on Thursday. His lawyer, Abe Mashni, said Walker would be released from jail later Tuesday on a $1,000 surety bond.

Tennessee Tech’s Matthew Kenty snared in Tennessee human trafficking operation

Matthew Kenty, 18, is charged with one count of patronizing prostitution, a Class B felony, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation announced on Thursday. Kenty was on the Ramsay High School Rams’ 2016 Class 6A state championship football team and is listed on the roster at Tennessee Tech.

The operation took place in Tennessee’s Putman County and was carried out by the TBI, Office of the 13th District Attorney General, Cookeville Police Department, Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, and Homeland Security Investigations, according to a press release. The initiative targeted individuals attempting to purchase illicit sex from minors.

Walk-on University of Nevada Linebacker, Devin Porter, Arrested

Devin Porter, a walk-on entering his fourth season at Nevada, was arrested Sunday at 5:33 p.m. by the Sparks Police Department for failure to appear on a traffic citation. The charge is a misdemeanor. If a defendant skips a court date, a judge can issue a bench warrant for their arrest. If 30 days pass before a defendant surrenders himself, an additional charge for “failure to appear” can be issued. The maximum sentence for such issue includes four years in prison and/or $5,000 in fines, although both are rare.

Porter was issued a $415 bail, which he posted and was released.

A Nevada spokesperson said the department is aware of the situation and still gathering more information at this time.

The Hug High graduate, a 6-2, 200-pound defensive player who has rotated positions during his time at Nevada, will be a junior next season. He has yet to appear in a game for the Wolf Pack. His brother, Cliff, was a starter at left guard for Nevada as a sophomore last season before graduating early and giving up the rest of his eligibility.

 Oktibbeha County jail records show Lewis, 21, was arrested around 1 a.m. Friday on a charge of disorderly conduct. A news release from the Oktibbeha County Sheriff’s Department says deputies were called to Aspen Heights Apartments because a large crowd of people and cars were blocking streets. Deputies attempting to clear the streets directed traffic to exit. The release says Lewis attempted to push through traffic in the wrong direction and was arrested after several attempts to get him to turn around.

He was taken into custody and later released on $483.00 bond.

Mississippi State released this statement regarding Lewis’ arrest: “We are aware of the situation involving Leo Lewis earlier this morning. We are still collecting information and will have no further comment at this time.”

Lewis is from Brookhaven and is part of the NCAA investigation into gifts given by boosters to prospective athletes at Ole Miss.

The NCAA says Lewis received merchandise from an Oxford business and $21,000 in cash from both Ole Miss and Mississippi State.

ECU’s Chandon Hickerson faces misdemeanor charges

East Carolina football defensive end Chandon Hickerson was charged with three misdemeanors last weekend.

The Greenville Police Department arrest report shows Hickerson was arrested Sunday at 5:41 a.m. on Greenville Boulevard and charged with resisting a public officer, reckless driving to endanger and failure at stop sign/flashing red light. He had a secured bond of $1,000.

An ECU football spokesman said Tuesday afternoon that head coach Scottie Montgomery has talked with Hickerson and is in the process of gathering additional information.

Hickerson made 15 total tackles in nine games as a freshman in 2017.
