Washington State student-athletes arrested after vandalizing cars, police say

PULLMAN, Wash. — Three Washington State University student athletes, including two football players, were arrested on felony vandalism charges.

A spokesperson for the Pullman Police Department said officers received a report on Saturday morning that people were jumping on cars at the Cougar Ridge Apartments on College Hill. A witness said they followed the suspects, who drove away from the scene.

A Whitman County Sheriff’s deputy pulled the suspects over before Pullman police arrested 21-year-old Christian Haangana, 19-year-old Fa’avae Fa’avae and 20-year-old Makamae Gormera-Stevens for felony second-degree malicious mischief. This charge means the damage they allegedly caused exceeded $750.

The athletes allegedly dented the hoods and busted windows of a Mercedes sports utility vehicle and sedan.

Haangana is a redshirt junior offensive lineman who played in all games for the Cougars last season.

Fa’avae is a redshirt sophomore linebacker who appeared in ten games last season, recording six tackles with 2.5 sacks.

Gomera-Stevens is a sophomore forward on the women’s soccer team. She made her first collegiate start against No. 19 Minnesota, playing 79 minutes.

Pullman police said the investigation is ongoing. The Whitman County Prosecutor’s Office will decide whether to file charges against the student-athletes.

Jaylen Veasley, ULM Football player, arrrested for domestic incident

Jaylen Veasley The Fulmer CupJaylen Veasley, 22, was taken into custody Monday afternoon by Monroe Police on a misdemeanor charge simple battery and felony charge of unauthorized entry of an inhabited dwelling.

Per the arrest report, Veasley entered the residence of his ex girlfriend, Montana Miller, after she advised him not to multiple times and encountered cornerback Floyd Connell. Veasley allegedly Connell and swung his fist at him, which prompted Connell to respond in self-defense.

Miller and Veasley have a child together.

Texas Tech running back Da’Leon Ward arrested

Da'Leon Ward The Fulmer CupTexas Tech running back Da’Leon Ward, who’s been expected to regain a prominent role in the Red Raiders’ offense after a year off, was booked into Lubbock County Jail around mid-afternoon Tuesday.Ward is charged with theft of between $2,500 and $30,000, a state jail felony. The Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office was the arresting agency listed on Ward’s booking sheet. A Tech spokesman said he was unaware of Ward’s arrest before A-J Media broke the news, and Tech is gathering information.

LSU LB Tyler Taylor suspended after arrest for pawn shop burglary, might face felony charges

Tyler Taylor The Fulmer CupLSU suspended linebacker Tyler Taylor after learning he was arrested in May for reportedly serving as the getaway driver in the burglary of a Georgia pawn shop, according to arrest documents obtained Wednesday by The Advocate.

LSU athletic officials confirmed they learned of Taylor’s case Wednesday and that he is suspended indefinitely for violation of team rules.

An incident report by the Cumming Police Department said that in the early morning of Jan. 8, three men and a juvenile broke into a pawn shop in Cumming, Georgia, stole several firearms and fled the scene in a vehicle driven by Taylor.

The report said a Cumming police officer obtained arrest warrants May 27 for Taylor, 19, for conspiracy to commit a crime, party to a crime and theft by receiving stolen property.

On May 31, Taylor was booked into a local jail, and nearly five hours later he posted bond for the total sum of $33,550, according to the booking report from the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office.

The three crimes for which Taylor was arrested are all classified as felonies. LSU athletes who are charged with felonies “will be immediately suspended from participation in intercollegiate athletics,” the LSU student-athlete handbook says.

Gator freshman Justin Watkins arrested for second time, facing felony charges

Justin Watkins The Fulmer CupGator wide receiver Justin Watkins has been arrested in Gainesville and faces four charges( two felony counts) including two counts battery, kidnapping/false imprisonment. and domestic battery by strangulation.

According to the arrest report, on July 20th, Watkins intentionally struck a woman, both with an open and closed fist on both sides of her head while he held her down on a bed.

The report goes on to say Watkins choked the woman multiple times while continuing to pin her down on the bed.

Police say Watkins then confined the women to his dorm room by standing in the doorway and blocking the exit.

The report says the woman was physically restrained by Watkins until she sprayed him with mace out of self defense.

Police say Watkins then chased the woman out, threw multiple items at her including a brush and container of “hair grease” causing bleeding and swelling.

The Gators have suspended Watkins indefinitely.

This is Watkins second arrest of the offseason. He was charged in May for trespassing near Vanguard High School after following a woman to a gas station, destroying her phone, kicking her car.

Former Virginia Tech football player Mook Reynolds charged with felony

The Fulmer Cup Mook ReynoldsFormer Virginia Tech defensive player Mook Reynolds was arrested by Blacksburg police on Monday, the same day he was dismissed from the university’s football team.

Reynolds faces a felony charge of the sale or distribution of marijuana or the possession of marijuana with the intent to sell or distribute it.

The case was filed Friday on the Virginia courts’ website. He is due to be arraigned in Montgomery County General District Court on July 27.

Tennessee Tech’s Matthew Kenty snared in Tennessee human trafficking operation

Matthew Kenty, 18, is charged with one count of patronizing prostitution, a Class B felony, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation announced on Thursday. Kenty was on the Ramsay High School Rams’ 2016 Class 6A state championship football team and is listed on the roster at Tennessee Tech.

The operation took place in Tennessee’s Putman County and was carried out by the TBI, Office of the 13th District Attorney General, Cookeville Police Department, Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, and Homeland Security Investigations, according to a press release. The initiative targeted individuals attempting to purchase illicit sex from minors.

UGA coach, Kevin Purvis, arrested for using hidden camera in locker room

 

Kevin Purvis The Fulmer CupKevin Purvis, 37, who is listed as associate equipment manager on the Georgia Athletic Association’s website, was booked into Athens-Clarke County Jail at 8:48 p.m. Friday and charged with four felonies and a misdemeanor. Three of the felonies are for illegal eavesdropping or surveillance. The other felony was for possession of a Schedule II controlled substance and the misdemeanor was for possession of marijuana.

Purvis’ arrest came nearly a month after an unidentified person found a camera hidden in a shower area of Butts-Mehre Heritage Hall. UGA officials called police Feb. 27 and an investigation began. Arrest warrants for Purvis were executed Friday by the Athens-Clarke County sheriff’s office, and Purvis turned himself into the jail later that night. He remains incarcerated on $16,000 in bonds.

IU football player, former player arrested on drug dealing charges

Johnny Albomonte The Fulmer CupBLOOMINGTON – Two members of last season’s IU football team, walk-on defensive backs Johnny Albomonte and Thomas Henderson, were both arrested on felony drug charges Friday.

According to a statement to IndyStar from Capt. Steve Kellams of the Bloomington Police Department, BPD’s special investigations unit executed an arrest warrant Friday at a Bloomington apartment.

“Detectives within the special investigations unit received and began an investigation regarding this residence,” Kellams said in an email. “Detectives purchased drugs on multiple occasions over the last month.”

Kellams said both Henderson and Albomonte were charged with dealing marijuana, a level 6 felony, and maintaining a common nuisance, also a level 6 felony.
