Dismissed Notre Dame RB turned Penn State walk-on, CJ Holmes, will have shoplifting charge dropped
The good news just keeps pouring in for CJ Holmes. Over the weekend, it was reported that Holmes, dismissed by Notre Dame last January, would be walking on at Penn State. Tuesday, the trigger behind the running back’s Fighting Irish dismissal is set to be put behind him as well.
Holmes was arrested for shoplifting last December and was subsequently suspended from Notre Dame’s bowl game. That suspension ultimately gave way to the dismissal from the football program nearly a month later.
This past season in South Bend, Holmes ran for 32 yards on eight carries. The Connecticut high school product was a four-star member of the Fighting Irish’s 2017 recruiting class, rated as the No. 19 running back in the country on 247Sports.com‘s composite board.
It had been reported early last month that Holmes was headed to a Mississippi junior college for the 2018 season, but those plans appear to have changed.

Texas Tech dismisses junior WR Quan Shorts from football program
Texas Tech head coach Kliff Kingsbury announced Thursday that junior wide receiver Quan Shorts has been dismissed from the program.
According to Tech athletics spokesman Matt Dowdy, the school will have no further comment on Shorts’ dismissal at this time.
Shorts was one of four Tech football players arrested back in March following an altercation with law enforcement outside of Bash Riprocks Nightclub in Lubbock.
The four players were suspended by Coach Kingsbury, only to be brought back to the team a few days later.
Shorts was booked into Lubbock County Detention Center at 3:41 p.m. today, according to Don Williams of the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal. His charges have not been made public yet.

Shoplifting charge against former WSU DB Zaire Webb dismissed (The Fulmer Cup Offseason)
The theft charge against former Washington State defensive back Zaire Webb has been dismissed due to insufficient evidence, according to Whitman County court records.
Webb and former WSU receiver Anthony White were arrested and accused of shoplifting at the Walmart in Pullman on Oct. 4.
Webb and White, both freshmen, were accused of paying only $50 for $275 worth of merchandise. Store surveillance cameras showed Webb standing next to White as White operated the self-checkout machine.
